How hard is it to fix the starting mechanism in a 1988 Toyota Camry?

The starter and the ring gear in my 1988 Camry Wagon are both missing teeth, and as a result I am unable to start the car. When I turn the key over, the only thing that happens is the electronics turning on–there is no engine noise whatsoever. My question is how hard would it be for someone with limited mechanical experience to install both a new starter and ring gear? I have found instructions for replacing the starter, and I am confident that I could do it myself, but I have no idea how to get at the ring gear.

The ring gear is different story those just are hard to do this case youd be better off letting qualified shop doing itif it was just the starter your selfbut the starter you wouldnt have the tools and equipment to do no matter who does them think in this helps.

changing the starter is not that hard. Changing the ring gear, or flywheel , will be somewhat different. you will have to remove the transmission to get to the ring gear.
