Drastic Ads for Ford, General Motors

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008
camry
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

For the past quarter of a century, the highly profitable midsize cars segment was dominated by Asian car manufacturers such as Honda and Toyota. The reliability and quality of the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord played a major role in the dominance of these car makers over Ford and General Motors. Recently, the Michigan-based car manufacturers are implementing aggressive ad campaigns to promote their midsize cars.

For Ford, they have launched advertisements which show that the Ford Fusion is a better alternative to the Camry or the Accord. Known as the Ford Fusion Challenge, the Dearborn, Michigan-based car manufacturer had real consumers test the Fusion against the Camry and the Accord. The result of these tests shows that the Fusion has what it takes to compete with those mentioned Asian cars in terms of quality.

“We need to earn people’s confidence and trust, and we believe we’ve got the goods to back it up,” says Barry Engle, the general manager of the Ford Division for marketing.

For General Motors, it was the Saturn brand that used an aggressive marketing strategy. The Saturn fuel injector¬-equipped Saturn Aura was named earlier this year as the North American Car of the Year. This is being used by the revitalized Saturn brand in marketing the Aura against the Camry and the Accord.

The company is providing customers with Accord and Camry units to test drive against the Saturn Aura. While using this strategy poses a risk that car buyers would opt for a Camry or an Accord after test driving it on Saturn dealerships. General Motors though is confident that the Aura will attract more buyers and lead them away from import cars. “We’ve really got to fight hard,” says Mark LaNeve, General Motors’ vice president of North American sales. “If you see a more aggressive tone, we just want to shake people’s consciousness a little bit.”

The domination of Toyota and Honda is evident in the fact that General Motors and Ford posted declining market shares for the past years. In 1980, General Motors cornered 46 percent of the United States car market. After 27 years, it is now down to 19.2 percent and is at risk for falling lower. For Ford, the past 27 years saw their car market share plunge from 19.2 percent to just 11.1 percent today.

In contrast, Toyota has tripled its market share while Honda doubled is sales output. Further proof is the losses being incurred by General Motors and Ford. Both companies have already closed down plants and reduced the number of employees. Meanwhile, Honda and Toyota are expanding their business operations in the United States by constructing more and more assembly plants and facilities in the country.

Observers of the auto industry pointed out that General Motors and Ford must show to car buyers that they have equaled Honda and Toyota in terms of car quality. “It’s a desperate time for Ford and General Motors,” says David Koehler, a clinical marketing professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago. “They’re begging the consumer to at least try us and consider us,” he added.

Whether the aggressive marketing strategies being employed by General Motors and Ford will reverse buying trend in the midsize car segment is yet to be proven. But judging by the confidence that the two American car manufacturers are showing, it seems that they may have finally come up with cars which can give Toyota and Honda a run for their money.

Top Selling Vehicles for September

Sunday, June 8th, 2008
camry
Anthony Fontanelle asked:

September has come and gone and automakers are now posting their sales output for the said month. General Motors posted an increase in sale; Ford continues its slide; Chrysler saw an increase, Honda and Nissan also posted increased sale and Toyota’s sales declined for this year’s September. Theautochannel.com recently reported the top selling vehicles for the month of September and although the Ford F-Series is still on the top of the list, it shows declining demand.

Last month, 56,065 units of Ford F-Series vehicles were sold and that is 20.8 percent lower as compared to the number of F-Series trucks sold by the Dearborn automaker last year for the same month. Nipping on the F-Series heels is General Motors’ Chevrolet Silverado. Sales of the full-size pickup reached 52,480 - 1 percent better than last year. Number three on the list and the highest ranked small car is the Honda Accord. The Japanese automaker sold 40,438 units of the Honda Accord last month, showing an increase of 5.7 percent over last year.

The Honda Accord edged out the Toyota Camry in terms of sales last month. Although the Camry showed an increase of 26.2 percent over last year, it still fell short of catching up with the Accord. Last month, Toyota sold 35,031 units of the Camry. Number five on the list is the Dodge Ram. Sales for the Ram increased by 20 percent compared to the same month last year. This shows that the demand for large cars is still large. Last month, Chrysler sold 30,100 units of Dodge Rams which came equipped with Dodge accessories.

The Toyota Corolla is the sixth best-selling vehicle last month. Sales for the Corolla reached 29,550 after the demand for the small car dropped by 8.5 percent. The Honda Civic is gaining on the Corolla as Honda sold 41.1 percent more Civics last month compared to last year’s September. Number eight is the Nissan Altima. Nissan sold 24,752 units of the Altima last month, sales for the sedan dropped by 6 percent this year. The Chevrolet Impala is the ninth best selling vehicle last month with an output of 23,172 units which reflects an improvement of six percent. The Toyota Tundra rounds up the ten best selling vehicles last month. Toyota sold 19,794 units of the redesigned pickup, an increase of 30.1 percent.

The Honda CR-V is number eleven on the list followed by the Honda Odyssey both showing significant increase. Sales for the CR-V increased by 62.2 percent while sales for the Odyssey increased by 55.2 percent last month compared to last year’s September. The Chevy Cobalt is next on the list followed by the GMC Sierra. The Ford Focus is the 15th best selling vehicle last month. The Toyota RAV4 is sixteenth, followed by two Toyota nameplates, the Tacoma, seventeenth; and the Prius, eighteenth. The Chevrolet Trailblazer is the nineteenth best selling vehicle last month with sales reaching 12,494 units. The Ford Escape completes the list with sales of 11,966 last month.

It is interesting to note that aside from major automakers General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, and Honda, no other automakers has a vehicle listed in the top twenty. Even European automakers failed to sell as much vehicles as American and Japanese automakers.

What Can Make Your Car Look Extremely Cool

Monday, June 2nd, 2008
camry
Kevin Bailey asked:

When it comes to your car, there are a lot of people that want to invest in making their cool look better, go faster, and do more things. Unforunately, these things often come at a hefty price. Along with that, they need to be installed, and that is more expensive than the product itself half the time.

There is one way that you can definitely add the “cool” factor to your car, through a body kit. The great thing about a body kit is the ability to customize. There are so many different variations of body kits that it would be practically impossible to find every one of them.

Body kits are somewhat like spoilers, ground effects, rims, and other accessories you can add to your car that make it look better. Overall, body kits are the most bang for your buck. Aftermarket companies have done a great job creating the best looking body kits for the camry.

The reason that body kits are such a good investment is only when you buy them online. You can get them very affordable, and have a lot more options then local shops. You can have custom-made body kits where you pretty much tell them what you want the body kit to emphasize and then they will do it, but that comes at a bigger price tag.

Other than that, there are pre-designed and pre-built body kits that the company has put together which they feel looks best for what they are trying to achieve. These are always a good bet to make especially if you have seen their work on several cars, and the price you are going to be will be extremely cheaper.

A great money saving tip is that if you plan on buying a new car, and you want to get the top of the line manufactured version, don’t. They overcharge you way too much for what it really costs to have the parts and accessories made.

Take the time and buy the stock, and get your own body kit, get your own accessories, and get your own engine modifications. Not only will it cost you less, it will be more customized to your likings, so you will enjoy it more. Also, you will get a better deal on what your doing as well, whether it be better performance, better look, or better accessories, you will often find that to be true.

Many body kits can be assembled by yourself, but sometimes they ask for alterations to certain parts, and if you are not experienced with what you are doing, you definitely don’t want to ruin your brand new body kit, or even worse your car. Take the time and money and go to a shop that can help you get it installed right, even if you have to pay a few extra dollars.

On top of that, most body kits come unpainted, thus you would need to get it painted. Some people know how to paint a body kit well, but if you have a brand new beamer, your not going to want to do it yourself. Because, those glossy paint jobs aren’t easy to replicate on your own, getting it done by a professional is the best bet to keep your car looking smooth.

What you have to watch out for is their return policy, make sure to test every piece, without drilling or altering the original body kit at all, you want to make sure all of the pieces will fit into place before you do anything. A lot of body kit sellers will not allow you to return ot exchange your product, thus you want to make sure that you got the right thing.

There are many different styles you will find from wide, to normal, customized or not, and some with more material than others. It’s all about preference when it comes to a body kit, you have to look around and see what you like the best, and then go from there.

If you have the knowledge, tools, and the ability to install the body kit on your own, go ahead and go for it. Even though it may say it is recommended to have it installed by a professional, that is so that people who don’t have any experience with cars, specifically body kits, won’t try to put it together and mess something up to the point where they can’t assemble it anymore.

Make sure, if you’ve been thinking about getting a body kit, compare prices between different websites, and make sure to look at all of the body kits you can find for your car’s make and model before you purchase one, because often times you’ll find one you like more later on.

Top Five of the Most Fuel Efficient Cars

Monday, June 2nd, 2008
camry
Steven Magill asked:

Copyright (c) 2008 Steven Magill

With oil prices steadily climbing up, it seems logical to start considering fuel economy among the many criteria that consumers use for buying their next vehicle. Wise consumers are now eyeing at the most fuel efficient cars that the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) comes up with every year. This list pertains to cars that are capable of attaining the best gas mileage due to their specific features and engine performance.

Here is a list of the five most fuel efficient cars that are available in the market today.

Honda Civic GX

One of the main reasons why this particular Honda model has made it to the list of most fuel efficient cars is that it uses compressed natural gas unlike other vehicles. It has a fuel economy rating of 28 miles per gallon (of compressed natural gas). It comes with an at-home pump that you can use to tap into your home gas line to fill it up before you leave your home. However, since compressed natural gas isn’t likely to be available in all gasoline stations everywhere, you will want to carefully plan your trips if you’re going to use Civic GX. It may be one of the most fuel efficient cars but it can only travel 170 miles on a single fill-up.

Toyota Prius

Prius has always made it at the top of the list for the most fuel efficient cars from EPA. It has an overall fuel economy rating of 46 mpg, one of the lowest in the market these days. The mid-sized sedan features a spacious interior which has made it a crowd favorite as well. As one of the most fuel efficient cars in the market, Prius has an estimated annual fuel cost of $1019.

Honda Civic Hybrid

The Civic Hybrid features electric motors that maximize the potential of its small 1.3-liter engine. It is another one of Toyota Prius’ direct competitors when it comes to rankings for the most fuel efficient cars. With an overall fuel economy rating of 42 mpg, one can easily surmise how it came to figure on the list for most fuel efficient cars.

Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Camry Hybrid has a fuel economy rating of 34 mpg which barely made it to the list of most fuel efficient cars today. Its battery pack, while a bit bulky compared with other models, is one of the main features that have made it figure in this roster of the most fuel efficient cars. It also features a fuel economy gauge that lets the driver know when its average mileage rises.

Nissan Altima Hybrid

The Altima Hybrid uses practically the same technology that the Toyota Camry Hybrid has but with a couple of different features. It also has an overall fuel economy rating of 34 mpg making it another one of the most fuel efficient cars among compact sedans. Altima is great to use for city driving. According to estimates, it fares better in the city when it comes to best mileage than when used on the highway. But with its superb engine performance, it has managed to maintain its place among the most fuel efficient cars available today.
