Rain Stockton asked:

Toyota Motor Corporation has made it to the list of Fortune’s list of world’s 500 largest companies by revenue for 2006. Toyota was ranked 6th for this year which is two notches ascent from last year’s 8th ranked.

The producer of top-of-the-line Toyota Camry parts, Toyota Motor Corp. was the only Asian company that made it to the top 10 of Fortune Global 500 rankings. Toyota’s revenue of $204.75 billion has qualified it for the 6th position.

Toyota’s revenue has grown by 10 percent over the previous year and is expected to grow continuously for the coming years.

Aside from Toyota, the US retail Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has returned from the top spot from being second the previous year with a revenue of $351.14 billion up by 11 percent.

Exxon Mobile Corp. still from US came second with revenue of $347.25 billion followed by the British-Dutch oil titan Royal Dutch Shell PLC with revenue of $318.85 billion.

In fourth position was Britain’s BP PLC with $274.32 billion revenue followed by General Motors, the world’s largest automaker of United States with posted revenue amounting to $207.35 billion.

The total revenues of the companies included in the Fortune Global 500 list came to $21 trillion up by 10.4 percent as compared to 2005.

As expected six of the top 10 were oil companies with three automakers and a retailer. Banks and brokerage firms have also advanced in their rankings baked by a global boom in merger and acquisition activities.

There were a total of 67 Japanese companies that made it into the Fortune’s list down by three from the previous year which is attributed to the depreciation of yen against some of the world’s major currencies which reduces their revenues in dollars.

Japan has the second largest number of companies on the list seconded by United States which has 162 companies. The combined revenues of the US companies included in the 500 list accounted for more that one-third of the total revenues of the Fortune Global 500 companies.

China has also 24 companies that made it into the Fortune’s 500 list, up by 20 from the previous year and the second highest number in Asia following Japan.

Among the Japanese firms that made it into Fortune Global 500 list are Honda Motor Co. which ranked 37th with $94.79 billion revenue; Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. ranked 40th with $92 billion revenue; Nissan Motor Co. on the 45th place with $89.50 billion revenue; and Hitachi Ltd on the 48th place with $87.62 billion.

Here the Top 10 of Fortune’s Global 500 list:

1 Wal-Mart Stores: 351,139.0

2 Exxon Mobil: 347,254.0

3 Royal Dutch Shell: 318,845.0

4 BP: 274,316.0

5 General Motors: 207,349.0

6 Toyota Motor: 204,746.4

7 Chevron: 200,567.0

8 DaimlerChrysler: 190,191.4

9 ConocoPhillips: 172,451.0

Want a Hybrid Car? Better Compare Them Here First

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Floyd Dorrance asked:

Compare ALL Hybrid cars with each other before deciding.

The following article includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary.

For the past fout or five years, there has been much ado about Hybrid Cars and the many benefits they could offer. Their popularity has been compounded by the ever surging gas prices and the concern for the environment. It seems that Hybrid Cars are the solution to both. When you use a Hybrid car, you contribute less to the thickening air pollution, plus you save a lot of money since they require less fuel, plus there are numerous tax credits being given by many states.

For these reasons, hybrid cars have experienced a sharp increase in sales and more car manufacturers are joining the hybrid vehicle arena with their own versions. For those who are planning to buy a hybrid car, the choices are numerous, that’s why you have to compare hybrid cars with one another to see which one would go well with your needs.

Two of the top hybrid car manufacturers are the Japanese giant’s Toyota and Honda. They are credited with producing many innovations in the hybrid technology and their hybrid cars are the most acclaimed, most sought after and most awarded hybrid vehicles today.

Here we will compare the hybrid cars they are offering for 2007, these will include the Honda Accord Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Lexus GS 450H, Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Toyota Prius.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about “hybrid car”. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

Their fuel efficiency can be compared through their average consumption per mile in different situations, like; City Driving – where the traffic is constantly stopping, Highway Driving – where the engine can freely operate at maximum level and their combined average usage.

Miles Per Gallon – Average Miles Used Per gallon of Fuel

· Honda Accord Hybrid – 28 MPG (city), 35 MPG (Highway) and 31 MPG (Combined Average)

· Honda Civic - 49 MPG (city), 51 MPG (Highway) and 50 MPG (Combined Average)

· Lexus GS 450H - 25 MPG (city), 28 MPG (Highway) and 26 MPG (Combined Average)

· Toyota Camry Hybrid - 38 MPG (city), 40 MPG (Highway) and 39 MPG (Combined Average)

· Toyota Prius - 51 MPG (city), 60 MPG (Highway) and 55 MPG (Combined Average)

But before you just pick out the one with the highest MPG average, you still have to consider and compare a couple of aspects as well. This includes the fuel type. All of these vehicles use regular gasoline except for the Lexus which uses Premium Gasoline that is pricier.

Then you also have to compare the size class of each hybrid car and their engine size and liters. The Accord Hybrid is a midsize car with a 3 liter - 6 cylinder engine. The Civic Hybrid is a compact car with a 1.3 liter – 4 cylinder engine. The Lexus is another compact car with a 3.5 liter – 6 cylinder engine. The Camry Hybrid is a midsize sedan equipped with a 2.4 liter – 4 cylinder engine and the Toyota Prius is a compact car with a 1.5 liter – 4 cylinder engine. The more powerful the engine is, the more fuel will be consumed.

Considering this aspect and others is needed when comparing hybrid cars. You have to consider the differences. Before purchasing a hybrid car, compare first and do your research. Find one that would suit your needs and your personality best to get the perfect hybrid car for you.

That’s how things stand right now. Keep in mind that any subject can change over time, so be sure you keep up with the latest news.

Check Out the New Toyota Venza at Bell Road Toyota This Fall

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Robert asked:

label you want to give it, the new Toyota Venza looks like a winner.

Think of the Venza as a station wagon and you’ll probably get the point. Of course, it doesn’t look exactly like any station wagon we’ve seen before. Unveiled at Detroit’s North American International Auto show in January, Venza drew lots of attention. Among vehicles currently available, it reminds us most of the Ford Edge crossover.

There’s a lot of the Lexus RX350 in this Toyota, too, though the Venza is pressed down closer to the ground, and sleeker. Its front end is taller, but definitely molded in the theme of Toyota’s current Camry sedan. The Venza’s rear glass has a nice, long rake, and its taillights wrap around the rear fenders onto the hatch. Its standard wheels measure 19 inches in diameter, while 20-inch spoked alloys are optional. In sum, the Venza is one of the more handsome, interesting vehicles Toyota has launched in some time.

A look at its dimensions brings the crossover label into perspective. At 109.3 inches and 189 inches, respectively, the Venza’s wheelbase and overall length match both Bell Road Toyota’s Camry sedan and Highlander sport-utility within fractions of an inch. In other words, the Venza’s footprint on the pavement matches both Camry and Highlander closely. Yet with an overall height of 63.4 inches, the Venza slots right in the middle of the Camry and Highlander. It’s ride height falls somewhere in the middle, too.

The 2009 Venza seats five, like the Camry, rather than seven like the Highlander. Its rocker height, or the lip around the bottom of its passenger doors, is low, making it easy to lift feet inside, yet the hip point for seated occupants is higher than the typical sedan’s. The combination should deliver a mix many buyers seek: easy ingress and egress, with a higher seating position for a better view around tall vehicles on the road.

The 2009 Venza should reach showrooms with the traditional model year changeover in early fall 2008. It will be built at Toyota’s assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky.

Honda Reveals a Slightly Bigger Accord for 2008

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Evander Klum asked:

Honda Motor Corporation finally launched its much awaited Civic EX Hybrid which is filled with new features like DVD voice-activated satellite-navigation as well as the Bluetooth hands-free phone system. The Japanese automaker also recently took the wraps off the new and slightly bigger Honda Accord for the 2008 model year.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the new 2008 Honda Accord look is aggressive, with Honda venturing into the larger car market where competition are the likes of Ford Focus and Toyota Camry.

Chris Martin, a spokesman for Torrance-based American Honda Motor Corporation said, “Americans don’t want a car that feels big on the outside, but they definitely want a car that feels like its spacious and luxurious on the inside. We wanted to make the Accord feel bold, roomy and refined.”

The new car is 5 inches larger than the current Toyota Camry, sporting a 3% increase in its interior. Last year, the Toyota Camry was able to outsell the Accord with almost 94,000 units.

California has the largest noted car sales for the Honda Accord. It actually ranked next to Toyota Camry last year. “We’ve been getting so many calls from customers for the car and they haven’t even seen a picture of it yet,” according to the sales manager Arman Marsoubian.

The 2008 Honda Accord has two coupe and sedan body styles. A new metal sheet is given matched on a more powerful and larger SOHC 3.5-liter iVTEC V6 running on a 268 horsepower and 248 lbs-ft of torque and on five-speed automatic transmission. The coupe version runs on a six-speed automatic transmission.

The sedan version also features the same V6 powertrain part but it was added with new variable cylinder management system that can be used to run either on three, four or six cylinders. The new 19/29 mpg was set as its EPA city/highway mileage giving the new coupe 16/25 mpg mileage as well.

Other options include the two iVTEC 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines running on both 177 horsepower and 190 horsepower respectively. The new car also has both reprogrammed engine control module plus the high-flow exhaust system. These DOHC engines run on 21/31 mpg mileage for its five-speed manual as well as on automatic boxes transmissions. The car also boasts of a more spacious interior.

Honda Accord does not have a hybrid version but the coupe and sedan version will be in showrooms this coming September 12. Prices and other relevant specifications like the Honda cabin filter are not yet revealed but the Japanese car maker promises to bring them out before the date of availability.
